Production and Decay

Being the first post, I want to explain a little of what I'm trying to do with 90 Minutes to Midnight.

This is not a typical music blog. I will not be uploading whole albums, I will not be taking requests, and I will not being doing reviews.

This is just a blog about mixtapes and the art of making mixtapes.

I will try to post at least one new tape per week, but I realize that may be a bit too ambitious, so don't hold me to it. More realistically, it will probably turn into a couple a month.

For the most part, these are all going to be done on C-90 cassettes (2 x 45mins) and I will be uploading the files so that if you feel compelled to have a copy of the tape, you can make it at home. Consequently, if any band sees their material up here and would like the link removed, simply comment on the particular post and I will remove it.

With all that out of the way, may I present our first tape:

Production and Decay
Length: 60mins (2x30mins)
Creation Date: 09.15.09
Genre: Stoner Metal, Psych, Post-rock, Screamo

So, with the first post, I'm already going back on one of the foundations I set up at the inception of this blog. This mix is not recorded on a C-90, but a C-60. I was at a bookstore in D.C. on the 14th and found this old Maxell 60min cassette still sealed in the bin for a quarter and loved the aesthetic of the solid black plastic casing that you don't particularly see on most cassettes anymore.

This one goes from heavy to psych back to heavy over the course of the seven songs and flows pretty seamlessly. Great background music for altered states of mind. Starts off with a pretty sweet sample from the film Network to boot.

Side A:
- Mouth of the Architect - Hate and Heartache (Album: Quietly)
- Cave - Gamm (Psychic Summer)
- Bossk - Define (.2 EP)
- LSD March - Kimi No Uta Wo Kiite Boku Wa Akuma Ni Natta (Under Milkwood)

Side B:
- Boris - Kane, The Bell Tower of a Sign (Heavy Rocks)
- Lotus Plaza - These Years (The Floodlight Collective)
- Pansori - eighthundredyearsofsilence (Demo)

So, there you go. The first of hopefully many tapes to be posted in the coming months.

Enjoy,
MG
